DMT is reported to have Mental effects similar to those of LSD, but often more intense. When smoked or injected, the effects come on suddenly and can be overwhelming. DMT users report a sense of leaving or transcending time. They also note a feeling that objects lose form and dissolve into a mix of vibrations. Thoughts and visions rush by at great speed. Users also describe feeling like they are transported to another universe. Finally, DMT users report feeling like they are being visited from non-human beings, often described as “elves” or “fairies.” Often people taking DMT report unpleasant experiences on these drugs, or “bad trips,” that may cause paranoia, panic, and the feeling of being out of control.
